3.5 Overpass

Overpass 3.5 is a movie about the sea of people who cross the 3.5 km of the overpass named Minhocão (Big Worm), an express lane built through downtown São Paulo during the military dictatorship. From down on the street to its highest floor, the spectator is conducted through different points of view. Both above and below the overpass, in the shade or on the power lines that draw the city, the movie unveils amidst a dive into the characters’ stories. The memories of a tailor, a construction worker, a salesman, the Italian immigrant’s daughter or the singer, give way to archived images. Words from a transsexual hairdresser, the man with a degree from the school of life, the song of a lonely person, all bring the spectator back to the present. Time overlaps. Other characters show up. People there by choice, and not, for a long time, and not, of different ages and origins. The overpass provokes and converges stares: from window to window, from the second floor to the express lane, from the car into the apartment, the bus to the store, the salesman to the passerby, the penthouse to the landscape.
